about

"Music Therapy" unfolds as the debut EP from Double Cassette Loop, a side project from Chilean musician, producer, and sound engineer Rafael Pérez, also known as DJ Raff. This collection, delving into the artist's experimental side, comprises five tracks seamlessly navigating the territories of lo-fi, vaporwave, and auditory collages, interwoven with snippets from VHS recordings and cassette tapes dating back to the '80s and '90s.

Setting the tone for the EP's dark yet inviting nostalgic atmosphere is the opening track, "Piensa En Mí." Crafted from fragments of the Spanish filmmaker Pedro Almodóvar's movie "Tacones Lejanos" (1991), it intertwines Balearic and Italo disco rhythms, meticulously slowed down and sampled from cassette tapes and VHS.

Continuing the sonic journey is "Music Therapy," wrapped in the classic vaporwave atmosphere and adorned with samples of Marvin Gaye's vocals. The mid-tempo beats, combined with the inclusion of instruments like saxophone and strings, enrich the lo-fi spectrum, giving the track an ambiguous identity fitting seamlessly into both pop and experimental contexts.

"Champagne" holds its place at the heart of the EP, offering a nostalgic, adolescent narrative rooted in the '80s. Serving as an interlude, it paves the way for "El Juego del Amor," DCL's first sonic experiment created in Barcelona, featuring samples from Spanish group Mecano's "La Fuerza del Destino."

Concluding the EP is "Ambition," a hypnotic and lo-fi track created with 8-bit samplers and a mere 5 seconds of RAM, incapable of retaining the crafted material. This instantaneous and perpetual auditory snapshot encapsulates the summer of 2011 in Barcelona, immortalizing a fleeting moment in time.

"Music Therapy" not only represents an exploration into the experimental realms of sound but also solidifies Double Cassette Loop's ability to create immersive sonic landscapes. This EP stands as a testament to DJ Raff's inventive versatility, seamlessly blending nostalgia, experimentation, sonic storytelling, and a touch of the unexpected.
